Scandinavia’s first Sloe Gin was launched by Hernö Gin in autumn of 2015. It is based on Hernö London Dry Gin and made as a traditional Sloe Gin. They let organic sloe berries rest in the gin for three months and are gently sweetened afterwards. The sloes give it a gentle dryness that is balanced with the sweeting. The original Hernö characteristics are still there, juniper forward and floral freshness. It goes very well in a gin and tonic, a French 75 or just on its own with a little ice.
Nose: Soft, floral blackthorn with a gentle sweetness of vanilla. A touch of nuttiness and mellow woody notes.
Palate: A jammy sweetness up front before the flavour gradually gets dryer and tarter. Notes of meadowsweet with a floral creaminess.
Finish: Hints of dried flowers and hay along with a creamy nuttiness and dry berries. Gentle, but lingering, with a little tartness.
Hernö Brenneri: Hernö hails from Angermanland, Sweden. Founded by Jon Hillgren in 2011, Hernö Brenneri is located in the village of Dala just outside the City of Härnösand in Ångermanland, on the east coast of Sweden. At the time it was Sweden’s first dedicated gin distillery and the world’s northernmost gin distillery. To stay true to its Swedish heritage, the distillery is built in a traditional Swedish manor in wood painted in red and white. British Airways’s in-flight magazine ‘Highlife’ describes it as the best distillery in the world to taste gin. Hernö Gin is the most awarded gin in Europe for the fourth year in a row. All Hernö gins are one-shot-gins, only diluted with water, from Hernö’s own well, and not chill-filtered.
